The Story of  Venice's Pocket Parks

Venice Florida is special in that it was created in 1926, and was a totally planned community designed by John Nolen, the first American urban planner.

Nolen's plan for the city of Venice included many parks and green spaces as he thought it was important for residents to have access to nature even if they were living in a city.

Nolen not only planned for many large public parks in Venice, but he also planned a number of pocket parks so that green spaces large and small were everywhere throughout his planned community.

The Venice FL Parks Dept. has preserved and now maintains 4 of Nolen's original planned pocket parks -Granada Nolen Green, Madrid Nolen Green, Harbor Nolen Green, and Milan Nolen Green. The name of each park starts with the name of the street its main access path connects to.
